Extruding

There are multiple ways to extrude on Ice Cube whether it be using Solidify or Manual Extruding almost all methods will work, I'll be teaching you my method for extruding down below, but first, make sure you read the notes below.
If you use solidify to extrude then make sure to move the solidify modifier to the very first one in the stack, if you don't it may cause problems with bending.
Another thing to be careful of is that the rig does not contain any extrusion layers so you will need to make backups of things while you're working so you don't lose the mesh completely if you mess up.
We will begin our tutorial by setting up some things on the rig that you won't be able to change later down the line, at least not without a ton of effort.
If you want to use a different playermodel such as Alex or the Thin model then go to Ice Cube > Main > General Settings
and change the model.
While you're under that panel make sure you enable fingers or not as it'll be hard to change that later on.
To start extruding, select the object you wish to extrude on, for this tutorial I'll be using an arm to keep things simple.
Enter edit mode and select the portion you wish to extrude
Next, use this keybind to extrude it along both the X
and Y
axes. E + Shift Z
and then move your mouse until you get an extrusion you like or just start typing a value into the viewport such as 1.1
.
You'll notice if you disable simplify all of your extrusions will become round and look really bad, to fix this, enter edge select mode, select one of those blue edges, then go to Select > Select Similar > Sharpness
, after which go to Select > Select Sharp Edges
.
Now that you have all of the edges selected press Ctrl + E
and select Mark Sharp
, next open the toolbox N (By Default)
, go to Item
, and change Mean Crease
to 1.
Now that we have our extrusion, we need to fix its UVs as they're currently broken.
Enter the UV Editing
tab at the top of your screen and select the faces with the broken UV.
Finally, move and correct the UVs by pressing G
in the UV editor. Once you're finished with that you can return to your previous tab and you're finished with the extrusion.
